Tips from successful women entrepreneurs in Beijing

INSPIRED organised a few weeks ago its first panel event dedicated to Women Entrepreneurship. Four successful women shared their trials and tribulations, disappointments and triumphs of business based in Beijing.

For those who missed this event, I wanted to share some of the important points they raised. You might find them particularly useful if you are thinking of starting your own business.

Challenges in having your own business:
- Unsteady income - financial pressures
- Family/work balance challenge
- Risk of feeling isolated if you are running a home business
- China specific: regulatory environment, selection of staff

- Getting to do what you truly love and believe in
- Flexibility, particularly if you are the parent of small children
- Financial rewards if you are successful
- Personal rewards if your business positively impacts the society or community you live in.

Tips for Entrepreneurs to be:
- Conduct well your market research
- Find good and trustworthy Chinese colleagues
- Be as legal as you can be
- Identify "the" opportunities emerged from China’s economic and social dynamism.
